GUNTUR: An official team from Guntur and Krishna districts recently wound up its week-long visit of Japan. Collector Kona Sasidhar, Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao and GMC Commissioner C Anuradha from Guntur and Principal Secretary, Energy, Ajay Jain, Vijayawada Police Commissioner Gautam Sawang and Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner J Nivas and CRDA Commissioner Ch Sreedhar visited important cities in Japan and interacted with various ministerial delegations.

The official team met the infrastructure development officials and the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Industries in Japan and studied the steps to be taken to solve traffic problems. The officials also discussed sanitation and public transport system being implemented in Japan.The CRDA Commissioner explained the steps to be taken by the government for the development of Amaravati through a PowerPoint presentation. He also explained Amaravati master plan through a PowerPoint  presentation. After completion of their study, the officials planned to implement the steps taken by the Japan government in Amaravati to solve traffic problem.

The officials said that they are keen on turning Guntur into a smart city by imposing traffic regulations and implementing public transport system of Japan. GMC Commissioner Ch Anuradha said that the GMC is planning to introduce solid waste management system being implemented in Japan.Collector K Sasidhar was all praise for solid waste management system being implemented in Japan. He said that the sanitation employees collect dry, wet and plastic waste from households on different days there.

Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao said that they were shocked to know that no drunken driving cases register in Japan. He said that drivers there may maintain a safe trailing distance at any speed, there are no encroachments on roads and there are separate paths for cyclists and pedestrians.

He said that there is a penalty point system for traffic violations and an individual’s driving licence will be cancelled if he is convicted for driving dangerously more than once. He stated that Tokyo has 1.3 crore population and majority of people prefer public transportation. He informed that CCTV cameras were installed all over Tokyo and traffic is being regulated through control centres.

MPs forum to stay in Japan till Feb 27
Guntur MP Galla Jayadev informed that the MPs forum will stay in Japan from February 17 to 27. Jayadev said that the team of MPs Baijayant Panda, Dr Sugata Bose, Prem Das Rai, Bharatendra Singh and Rajya Sabha member Vivek K Tankha recently met Japan PM Shinzo Abe in Tokyo and discussed subjects of bilateral and strategic interest between the two countries. Jayadev said that they met Sujan Chinoy, Ambassador of India to Japan in Tokyo. Jayadev hoped the present meeting would lead to prosperity and stability of the Indo-Japan relations. He added that their team visited “The Nippon Foundation Paralympic Support Center” in Tokyo. They met the Foundation chairman Sasakawa San and others.

GMC inks MoU with ITC
Guntur Municipal Corporation entered into an agreement with ITC to maintain zero level garbage in the 23 and 24 wards in Guntur city. GMC commissioner Challa Anuradha recently entered into an agreement with the ITC. The ITC has taken up the programme under Public Private Community Partnership Programme on solid waste management (SWM) under Mission Sunehra Kal Programme which will be in force for three years. ITC Divisional Chief Executive Officer of Agri Business Centre –ITC LTD signed the agreement with GMC commissioner. According to GMC officials, the ITC has to create awareness among the residents of these wards to segregate the garbage at house level and conduct various programmes. They will guide the GMC sanitation staff and do scientific management. ITC company has already been conducting these programmes in nine states of the country. They will ensure that all the garbage produced in the two wards is recycled.
