GUNTUR:  The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has taken a decision to make the city free of posters  and sought the support of theatres, institutions, commercial establishments and individuals for its initiative. Awareness will be created among the public through a campaign and anyone found violating the norms will be fined.To start with, the GMC will adorn walls of government buildings with colourful paintings and later take up the exercise even at private buildings in the city. GMC is planning to rope in the services of  artists and art students.

With cinema theatres, educational institutions and other organisations pasting posters on all buildings, the Joint Collector of Guntur district, GMC and other departments conducted a review meeting with all stakeholders and asked them to cooperate in identifying special places to hang their hoardings for publicity with prior permission. Further, the officials sought the cooperation of cinema theatre owners to make Guntur a poster-free city.

Guntur Joint Collector A Md Intiyaj said cinema posters were being pasted everywhere in the city. He asked the theatre owners to follow the norms.GMC Commissioner Srikesh B Lathka said special places for hoardings will be identified. He said that GMC will form teams to take action against those who violate norms.
