Dad rejects marriage proposal, girl ends life in Guntur of Andhra Pradesh

A girl student committed suicide in her rented room at Indira Nagar in Mangalagiri of Guntur district on Friday.

GUNTUR: A girl student committed suicide in her rented room at Indira Nagar in Mangalagiri of Guntur district on Friday. The girl took the extreme step as her family reportedly rejected her proposal for marriage with her lover.

According to Mangalagiri Urban CI B Harikrishna, 20-year-old student P Roja committed suicide by consuming poison in the room due to differences of opinion with her father. She was residing with two other girl students in the room.

She loved a boy and informed the same to her father Salman who performed the engagement with her lover after consultations with her lover’s family members but later he differed with Roja as  because of other community. Depressed over her father’s behaviour, she decided to end her life.

She wrote a suicide note and mentioned that she loved a boy but her family members were making indirect comments on her so she had taken the extreme step. She further stated that her parents should give respect to her younger sister if she takes any decision in the future.

She belongs to Gadevaripalem of Nagaram mandal in Guntur district and was studying first year MSc Nursing at NRI Medical College in Mangalagiri.

Salman lodged complaint with the police. The police started investigation after registering a case. Roja’s body was shifted to NRI Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Intermediate student commits suicide

Vijayawada: A 16-year-old intermediate student reportedly hanged himself in his hostel room at Sri Chaitanya College in Subbarao colony under the Patamata police station limits on Friday morning.   According to Patamata circle inspector K Umamaheswara Rao, the deceased was identified as K Nithin, a first-year MPC student.

He left a suicide note which said that he was depressed and could not focus on his studies. Around 7 am on Friday, his roommates saw his body and informed the college management. “Nithin’s body was sent to the new government hospital for postmortem and his parents were informed,” said Rao. A case under suspicious death was registered.
