Mid-day meal for students in government junior colleges from August 1

VIJAYAWADA: The State government on Wednesday issued guidelines for the implementation of mid-day meal programme for Intermediate students in government junior colleges from August 1. Till date, the mid-day meal programme was implemented only for school students (Class 1 to 10).

The government is planning to supply meal with a minimum of 966 calories and 27.85 grams of protein content to every student per day. Intermediate students in 331 government junior colleges will be provided mid-day meal from the schools on the same campus. In the remaining 119 government junior colleges, headmasters of nearby schools will transport cooked food to the colleges at the cost of the Intermediate Education Department.

The State government had decided to introduce mid-day meal scheme in all the 450 government junior colleges, aimed at strengthening Intermediate education, reducing dropouts and increasing enrolment and attendance.
