Madduvalasa water released in Andhra Pradesh

SRIKAKULAM: District collector K Dhananjaya Reddy on Friday said that unlike earlier times, we started releasing water for irrigation from various reservoirs a month in advance. Speaking to newsmen after releasing water from Madduvalasa reservoir on Friday, he said that cultivation in the kharif season must be completed by October-end for sowing second crop. He also asked the farmers to go for the second crop by November 16. 

He also promised that the water would be released from Narayanapuram ayacut on June 22 and from Vamsadhara on June 20. He also said that they were mulling supplying water to irrigate not less than 5 lakh acres for the proposed second crop in the district this year.  

In view of the local conditions, the government had granted 50 per cent subsidy on maize seed and 100 per cent on ragi, he added. Directing agriculture officials, he said that by June-end, agriculture officials must ensure completion of seedlings across the district.
