Rayalaseema should get new HC: Sundarayya Vignana Kendram

HYDERABAD: A round-table conference organised at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram here on Sunday, former judges and ex-chief secretaries belonging to Andhra Pradesh apprehended that the TDP government’s idea of concentrating the state’s development in and around Amaravati capital region could trigger the birth of another statehood movement for a separate Rayalaseema. They demanded that at least the High Court in the state should be established in the backward region or Rayalaseema.

During the meeting attended by former judges- Justice P Lakshmana Reddy, Justice B Seshasayana Reddy, Justice G Krishnamohana Reddy and Justice V Eshwaraiah, and ex-chief secretaries of AP government, IYR Krishna Rao and Ajeya Kallam, all the speakers strongly opposed the AP government’s decision to set up the High Court in the Amaravati capital region. The speakers also wanted separate development boards to be constituted for Rayalaseema and North Andhra, which they said were the most backward regions in the State.

“We have decided to send letters to President, Prime Minister, Supreme Court Chief Justice, AP Governor and AP Chief Minister, requesting them to set up High Court in Rayalaseema,” Jana Chaitanya Vedika president Lakshman Reddy said. They vowed to undertake a signature campaign to exert pressure on the State government to further their demand. They resolved to pressurise all political parties in to include this as a promise in their respective manifestos in the upcoming 2019 elections.
