ELURU: Following heavy rain in the catchment areas, River Godavari has started receiving heavy inflow of flood waters in West Godavari district.

The rainwater from nearby areas is flowing into the river. Following this, River Godavari is flowing above the diaphragm wall of Polavaram Project. The coffer dam that is being constructed upstream of the river was also filled with flood water.

Officials of the Water Resources Department said the level would rise further as heavy rain continues to lash the areas upstream of the river. The officials and contracting agencies are shifting the major machinery to the Godavari embankment as a precautionary measure.

Water released from PLIS

The water resources officials released water from the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (PLIS) on Saturday evening. Chief Engineer V Sridhar switched on the motors of PLIS at 4.45 p.m on Saturday and released Godavari water to the Polavaram Right Main Canal (PRMC).  Some more motors would be switched for drawal of additional water.
