Inter-state robber held, `11 Lakh worth of gold seized

Guntur CCS police arrested an inter-state thief here on Monday and recovered gold ornaments worth `11 lakh from him.

GUNTUR: Guntur CCS police arrested an inter-state thief here on Monday and recovered gold ornaments worth `11 lakh from him.

Addressing a press conference here, Guntur Urban SP Ch Vijaya Rao said the accused, Bathamsetty Sriram, was caught at the APSRTC bus stand when he was attempting to flee the city. Gold ornaments weighing 300 gram was seized from him. After witnessing his suspicious movements, the police took him into custody and found out his identity after interrogation.

The SP said the criminal was involved in robbery cases at bus stands and railway stations in Vijayawada, Tirupati and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh and Chennai.

athamsetty Sriram hailed from Vellamelli village of Unguturu mandal in East Godavari district, the SP added. He also took the occasion to appreciate efforts of CCS DSP (in-charge)D Prasad, CI T Ratna Swamy and other officials for arresting him.
