Woman beats husband black & blue, shuts him in dark room for 6 months

A 43-year-old man who was thrashed and held captive for six months by his wife and her relatives at Komaragiripatnam in Allavaram mandal of East Godavari district finally managed to escape.

KAKINADA : A 43-year-old man who was thrashed and held captive for six months by his wife and her relatives at Komaragiripatnam in Allavaram mandal of East Godavari district finally managed to escape on Saturday.The victim, Kokkiligadda Veera Venkata Satyanarayana, fled captivity with the help of his brother and lodged a complaint with the local police. His spouse, Surya Kumari, has been taken into custody for interrogation. 

The fisherman, who was subjected to torture by the family, has multiple fractures on his limbs, broken knees and burns on his body. Police admitted him to a government hospital. According to Allavaram sub inspector D Prasanth Kumar, the 43-year-old from Sakinetipalli moved to his wife’s village, Komaragiripatnam, after their wedding 22 years ago. 

“Though the couple were happy initially, differences cropped up between them as the wife was fed up with Satyanarayana’s drinking habits. She claims that he would quarrel often while he was in an inebriated state and their relationship descended into chaos,” Kumar said.“On January 5, Surya Kumari, her younger brother and a cousin thrashed Satyanarayana with sticks and burned his skin with hot iron rods.

He was then tied to a chair and confined to a dark room,” the cop said and added that for six months, Satyanarayana was fed and made to relieve himself in the same place, without being given medical attention. The fisherman’s relatives, who got wind of the situation just three days ago, immediately sent his brother to rescue him. A case has been registered under IPC Sections 342 ( wrongful confinement)and 326 RW 34 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt).
