ELURU/RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana has accused the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government of foisting false cases on those who are questioning corruption in the execution of Polavaram project.

Lakshminarayana along with party MLAs, MLCs and MPs visited the Polavaram project site on Sunday and interacted with the site engineers and water resources engineers and enquired about the progress of the works.

Later, addressing a public meeting organised by the party leaders at spill basin in the project site, Kanna said those who got displaced due to the project and the farmers have raised many complaints of irregularities and corruption in the Polavaram project.

Dismissing the claims of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu that he is constructing the project despite odds, the BJP State chief said that it was a national project and would be completed by the Central government on time.

“It was after Naidu’s repeated requests that the execution of the project was entrusted to the State government to ensure speedy construction. There is not an iota of truth in the Chief Minister’s claims that the Central government is creating hurdles in completion of the project,” he said.

He said that under the RTI Act, the State officials clarified that the Centre has no single rupee arrear for the project. However, the Chief Minister is claiming that the Centre has to give `18,000 crore,  which is only to mislead people, he said.  Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari has constantly monitored the construction of the project, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, MLC Somu Veerraju described Naidu as an expert in lying and misleading people. “He is taking credit for the work and efforts of others, which is ridiculous,” he said.

Party  MPs Gokaraju Gangaraju, Kambhampati Haribabu, GVL Narasimha Rao, MLAs Pydikondala Manikyala Rao, Kamineni Srinivas, P Vishnukumar Raju, MLCs Kanteti Satyanarayana Raju, former Union ministers Kavuri Sambasiva Rao and D Purandeswari, BJP district president Bhupatiraju Srinivasa Varma and others were present on the occasion.
