Andhra Pradesh engineer among three red sanders smugglers held, 22 logs seized 

The arrested smugger had exported over 600 tonnes of red sanders from the region.

KADAPA: In a major breakthrough, the police arrested telecom engineer turned red sanders smuggler Yettirajulu Srinivasulu alias Naidu. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, SP A Babujee said that the arrested red sanders smuggler was a graduate in Chemistry and also studied BCA.

He worked as a telecom engineer in Satyam Computers earlier. With agreed for easy money, he entered into red sanders smuggling eight years ago.

The police arrested a few smugglers a few months ago. During interrogation, they informed the police about Srinivasulu. On getting a tip-off, the police arrested Srinivasulu in Chennai on Sunday.

The arrested smuggler provided valuable information to the police about his accomplices. Based on the information, the police conducted a raid and arrested T Lakshmaiah and G Vinod Kumar at Vagetikona Cheruvu in Railway Kodur mandal and seized 22 red sanders logs, two cars, three mobile phones and 59.4 grams of gold jewellery, altogether worth Rs 50 lakh. The police also seized Rs 13,470 cash from them. 

The arrested smugger had exported over 600 tonnes of red sanders from the region. Though he had been in red sanders smuggling for the past eight years, the police arrested him for the first time, the SP said. He appreciated Additional SP (Operations) Adnan Naeem Hashmi, Rajampet DSP B Lakshminarayana, Inspector S Padmanabhan, SIs Konda Reddy and M Bhaktavatsalam for nabbing the notorious smuggler.
