BANGALORE: Under fire for the alleged irregularities on the allotment of ‘G’ category sites, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda categorically stated that the state government will strictly control the land mafia operating on the outskirts of Bangalore city.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an event here on Wednesday, he refused to elaborate since the matter is sub-judice, but assured of action against scrupulous elements.

“We have learnt that some legislators file wrong affidavits to show that land is  not available. However, land  on the outskirts is going to sell like gold,” said the chief minister.

It may be recalled that the allotment of ‘G’ category sites by the B S Yeddyurappa-led government had kicked up a furore following reports     that the sites were allotted to  kin of the former chief minister.

The then state government was forced to cancel the allotment of sites as a face saving exercise.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar had said that the government, henceforth, would not allot any ‘G’ category sites and even hinted at doing away with the system.
