BELGAUM: The courts across India imposed the highest accumulated fine of Rs 254 crore on an individual in the case of Karim Lala Telgi, the kingpin of the stamp paper scam.

The information availed by RTI activist Bhimappa Gadad from Gokak revealed Telgi had to pay the fine in 37 cases. He is still facing 17 cases in various courts.. Telgi, who at present is lodged at Yerawada prison in Pune was in Parappana Agrahara prison, Bangalore in 2008.

The jail spent Rs 20,760 for Telgi’s medical tests and Rs 33,477 on his medicines. He had networks in Karnataka, and other states. In a narco analysis test, Telgi disclosed the names of politicians and police officers.
