BANGAORE: Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Motamma demanded Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to convene an emergent Legislature session to discuss the issue, which, she said, had reached alarming proportions.

Motamma, who is leading a team of party leaders on a drought assessment tour, told Express here on Monday that district administrations have failed to respond to the situation.

“All that the state has done is to release funds to the deputy commissioners concerned and the agriculture and horticulture departments... its officials have not been motivated to reach out to the masses,” she asserted.

She pointed out that women jostling for water supplied by tankers was a common sight in most of the villages.

“The district administration has not responded to the pleas of villagers of Jodithimmapur in Chikmagalur district to solve their drinking water problem,  despite clear instructions from the chief minister,” Motamma added.

She decried the poor utilisation of government funds under the current administration.

“The state needs no additional funds from the Centre as funds released from Calamity Relief Fund are lying unspent,” the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council said.
