TUMKUR: Four fishermen died and three others sustained injuries when lightning struck Boranakanive reservoir near Huliyar village in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Gangajja (60), Manjanna (35), Gangaraju (30) and Jabeeulla (25) of Jayachandra Nagara, a hamlet in Hoysalakatte village.

They took shelter in their coracles when lightning struck them around 3.30 pm.The injured were shifted to the district general hospital. Tahsildar Umeshchandra visited the spot and disbursed a relief of `1,000 to each of the families.

“It is a relief for cremation and the administration will release `1 lakh for each family after the post mortem report,” he said.
