BANGALORE: Advocate General B V Acharya on Wednesday resigned after the government asked him to hold the post of either the AG or Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) in the disproportionate assets case against Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa.

Acharya forwarded his resignation letter to Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday.

“The government wanted me to resign from the post of SPP. I was not prepared to do that as that post was assigned to me by Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. In that case they wanted me to resign from the post of Advocate General, which I have done”, he explained.

With his resignation, Acharya will continue as SPP in Jayalalithaa’s case.
