Teacher bags Sahitya Award

BELGAUM: A young poet from Chikkodi in Belgaum,  Veeranna Madiwalar, 29, has bagged the prestigious  Central Sahitya Academy award for young writers that was constituted in 2011.

BELGAUM: A young poet from Chikkodi in Belgaum,  Veeranna Madiwalar, 29, has bagged the prestigious  Central Sahitya Academy award for young writers that was constituted in 2011.

His work, a collection of poems,  titled Nelada Karuneya Dani won him the prize. The  book is published by Kengulabi Prakashana, Kudalagi.The award comprises a cash prize of `50,000 and a citation. His poems depict various faces  of exploitation and cruelty that prevail in the society.

Sources at Central Sahitya Academy said that the names of the awardees would be  announced tomorrow.

The poet told Express it was a pleasant surprise as he never dreamt that his book will win the prestigious Sahitya Academy award.

Madiwalar is a teacher at a primary school at Goudenawadi village, Chikkodi.
