SHIMOGA: Regional parties must unite in the interests of the nation, opined former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.
Speaking at a district JD(S) workers’ convention here on Tuesday, Gowda termed the Congress and BJP as Team A and B. “The 10-year tenure of the UPA government under Manmohan Singh was witness to many episodes scandals.”
Adding that the objective of his state tour is to strengthen the JD(S) for future elections, he added: “People will support us as we provided good governance during H D Kumaraswamy’s tenure as chief minister.”
He also promised novel programmes for the betterment of people.
Former Union minister Basavana Gowda Patil Yatnal, who was also present, termed the BJP government anti-farmer and anti- people, which was seeped in corruption. He ridiculed former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa for insulting Lingayat mutts by providing them with grants.
“Yeddyurappa had only improved his assets and that of his family in the name of development,” he said.
Actress-turned-politician Pooja Gandhi stressed the need to educate children and to put a stop to child labour. She called upon youths to support JD(S) under the able stewardship of Kumaraswamy. “We have committed mistakes in the past and learnt lessons from it. We will ensure good governance if voted to power,” said former minister and working president P G R Sindhia.
