BELGAUM/HUBLI: Three people on the Nizammuddin-Vasco Express were injured after a youth opened fire with his revolver at Londa railway station in the wee hours of Saturday.

The injured, identified as Shahidulla Bashirahmed Desai (20) of Chikodi, Mosin Noorahmed Muniyar (26) of Vishnu Galli, Vadagaon (Belgaum) and Aayan Dastagirsab Balekundri (17) of Azad Nagar in Belgaum, were admitted to the district hospital and later to KLES Prabhakar Kore Hospital, Belgaum. They are said to be out of danger.

According to railway police, two groups  got into an argument over accommodation on the crowded train. One group of about four to five youths who alighted at Londa station first started pelting stones and then, one of them suddenly took out his revolver and fired at the coach injuring three people.

The injured passenger Desai told Express that he and the other two injured had nothing to do with quarrel but were standing at the door of the coach when a youth opened fire.

“We did not even know what had hit us. We could not see the youth or his gun clearly,” he said.

An eyewitness on condition of anonymity said that when the intoxicated youths were causing a nuisance on the train, angry passengers forced them out of the train.

In Hubli, railway police said they were clueless about the incident. A top official in the Hubli Sub-Division of South Western Railway said the injured have not revealed anything about the incident.

Railway police suspect that the youth, after opening fire, escaped in the dark. No arrests have been made.
