BIJAPUR: The district police on Wednesday arrested six persons in the case related to hoisting of Pakistan flag in Sindhagi town recently. SP D C Rajappa said the arrested were Rakesh Sidramaiah Math (19), Mallanagouda Vijayakumar Patil (18), Parashuram Vagmore (20), Rohit Eshwar Navi (18), Sunil Madiwalappa Agasar (18) and Anilkumar Solankar. Search is on for 1 more accused Arun Wagmare.

According to the SP, Anilkumar was held in the morning and his interrogation led to the arrest of the remaing near Chikka-Sindhagi village near the town. He confessed to the police that six of his friends used his motor bike to go to the tahsildar’s office on December 31 last year.

The arrested were college students studying in Sindhagi and Bijapur and belonged to the Sri Ram Sene.

The arrested persons would be produced before the court, the SP added.

He added that they had admitted to have planned it (hoisting the Pakistan flag) well before the New Year Day and some of them had gone to Bijapur for new year celebrations. They executed the plan when they returned and assembled before the tahsildar’s office. It may be recalled that protest rallies were taken out all over the district condemnig the incidents.
