MYSORE: IGP ASN Murthy has directed the Mandya police to provide security to the Dalit families in Ambalavadi village, Maddur district, and expedite investigation into the honour killing of an upper caste girl who fell in love with a Dalit boy. Thimmappa, brother of the Dalit boy Govindaraju, his wife Thayamma, and his mother Tholsamma narrated the incident to the top cop and the attack that ensued; they also presented a written statement. Murthy spoke to Mandya SP Kawshalendra Kumar and directed him to arrest the accused and instill confidence among the Dalit families.
He ordered the SP to personally monitor the investigation and, if need be, change the investigation officer.
Backward classes awareness forum president Shivaram demanded disciplinary action against the local inspector for not taking Thimmappa’s compliant seriously and averting Suvarna’s killing. He demanded that the investigation officer be changed as DSP Uthappa, too, had failed to arrest the accused.
“Representatives of progressive fora will accompany the Dalit family to Ambalawadi and appeal to the Dalits to unite against the atrocities being committed against them,” he added.
