SHIMOGA: The influence of a movie on television, which has the protagonist save the life of the heroine, left a great impact on the mind of a high school student Sandesh P Hegde, which forced him to save the life of Rashmi. On January 26, 2012 Sandesh will be receiving the National Bravery Award from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Sandesh P Hegde is the only son of Parameshwar Hegde and Saraswati and was born deaf and dumb. Presently, he is studying SSLC at Mother Teresa Deaf and Dumb School in Machenahalli, Shimoga.

Parameshwara Hegde told Express, “Though my son is not a normal child, I feel proud that he could save Rashmi, who is the only child to her parents. Now we are confident that my son will come up very well in life.”

On July 10, 2010, when Sandesh and his friends went to take a dip in river Magi (a tributary to Aghanashini) along with his cousin Rashmi, he saw her slip into the river and struggle for life. Without thinking twice, he jumped into the river and saved her life. For his achievement in saving someone’s life, the Union Government will present him with the Bravery award.
