BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has urged the Centre to issue a commemorative coin in the name of Sri Krishnadevaraya, the emperor of Vijayanagar to mark the 500th anniversary of his coronation.

In a letter to Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Gowda reiterated the demand for issuance of `5 coin in the name of Krishnadevaraya while highlighting the role played by the Vijayanagar Empire in preserving Indian cultural traditions in the areas of art, architecture and literature.

This is the second time the state is making the similar request. The Centre had then expressed its inability to issue such coins in view of the busy schedule of MINTS to undertake the jobs in hand. In another letter to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, Gowda requested to consider the case of Goa Freedom Fighters hailing from Karnataka on par with six other states connected to the movement and sanction Central Goa Freedom Fighters Pension to them at the earliest.
