BANGALORE: External Affairs Minister and former Chief Minister S M Krishna will address party meetings on Tuesday for the March 18 by-elections to the Udupi- Chickmagalur Lok Sabha seat.

According to party sources, Krishna who is also party in-charge for the Bangalore Revenue Division consisting of about 89 assembly seats, would address public meetings in Chikmagalur, Tarikere and Sringeri Assembly segments.

Krishna’s decision to campaign is expected to boost the confidence of party workers who see better prospects for candidate Jayaprakash Hegde.

The Congress is looking to lure a large number of Vokkaliga voters and the campaign by Krishna, a prominent Vokkaliga leader, may help the candidate considerably.

The by-elections is being held following the resignation of the sitting member D V Sadananda Gowda, after his election to the Karnataka Legislative Council recently.

While the BJP has nominated the party’s Yuva Morcha chief Sunil Kumar, the JD(S) has fielded former Chickmagalur Municipal Council chairman Bhoje Gowda.

There is a stiff triangular fight in which the saffron party candidate seems to have an edge over others.
