BANGALORE: To ward off drinking water problems in parts of North Karnataka, the state government appealed to Maharashtra government to release water from Koyna reservoir. Making a suo-motu statement in the Legislative Council, CM  D V Sadananda Gowda said he spoke to his Maharashtra counterpart Prithviraj Singh Chavan and appealed to release a minimum of 4 TMC. Expressing confidence that Maharashtra government may release at least 2 TMC of water, Gowda said that it may help to combat the problem. Congress member Allama Prabhu Patil also suggested that Gowda should impress upon the Maharashtra government to release water to Bhima river, which had also dried up in Gulbarga and Yadgir districts.
