BANGALORE: The State Assembly on Friday passed a bill that enables supervision and technical audit of all local bodies by the CAG.
“This bill seeks to replace the Ordinance that was promulgated on March 14 to that effect as the legislature was not in session,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar said, while moving the bill.
According to him, one of the nine conditions laid down by the 13th Finance Commission for performance grants to local bodies is entrusting of the supervision and technical audit of the said local bodies to CAG.
“This condition had to be met by the state government before the end of March 2012. The accountant general too had suggested a few modifications. By promulgating an Ordinance and replacing it with the bill, the state has fulfilled the Constitutional requirement,” he added.
