BANGALORE: The House Committee exhibited its anger against the electronic media by accusing TV channels of “bringing down the dignity of the Legislature” inside and outside India by “telecasting” the alleged porn-gate incident instead of concentrating on the actual proceedings.
“It is unacceptable that TV channels have telecast the alleged watching of porn clippings without bringing it to the notice of the Speaker. It amounts to defying the authority of the presiding officer of the House,” the report stated.
It also argued the media must only depict debates in the House and not focus on “other issues”.
The report stated concentrating on other issues amounts to violation of Section 16 and 17 of the Rules of Procedure. Blaming the media for blowing the issue out of proportion, the Committee said TV channels downloaded the footage from Internet to “bring clarity” as visuals caught by the channel’s camera was blurred and not distinct.
“This is against media ethics and hence unacceptable,” the report stated.
