Accusing the state government of failing on all fronts, Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council S R Patil has urged Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to dissolve the Assembly and go for fresh mandate.
“The ruling BJP is on the verge of a split due to former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa’s rebellion. As a result, the administration has collapsed and the development works have come to a standstill. Instead of continuing in power like this, Shettar should dissolve the Assembly and go for elections,” Patil told reporters here on Wednesday.
Describing Shettar as a weak and ineffective chief minister, Patil accused him of lowering the dignity of his post by not asserting himself. He has no control on his ministers or administration. He may be a good man but his goodness will not serve any purpose,” Patil said.
When asked if the the Congress would move a no-confidence motion as over 45 MLAs are supporting Yeddyurappa, Patil said,”It is a matter which should be decided by Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah. We will discuss it with him.”
He added that the proposed legislature session at Belgaum from December 5 should be held for a longer period, about 15 working days, instead of eight days, which includes two holidays.
“The people of North Karnataka have lots of expectations from the government particularly after the construction of Suvarna Vidhana Soudha. But the government has failed to respond by deciding to conduct the session for only eight days,” Patil added.
