Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Friday said that the Centre has “certain information” about some terror groups investing money in Indian stock markets. However, he refused to divulge the names of terror groups that have investments in Indian stock markets.
“I can’t disclose the names of terror groups. But I have spoken about it and also about the information Indian government has about such activities of terror groups at the Interpol meeting in Rome,” he told reporters after the Southern Zonal Meeting here on Friday.
On establishing National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) Shinde said: “There is some opposition. I have directed the home secretary to write to all chief secretaries and seek their opinion. If needed, I will also write to the CMs with a new formula.”
On fresh violence in Kokrajhar in Assam, Shinde said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had spoken to Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, adding that the Central government was assisting the state in controlling the situation. Though the situation has improved a lot over the years, some elements are creating problem which needs to be controlled, he said. The minister denied that the Centre has issued a fresh advisory to the state following renewed violence.
Nodal Agency
In order to curb human trafficking the union government will set up a central nodal agency in South India besides setting up a fast track court in one of the states in the region to try such cases. “It was decided in the meeting to set up a nodal agency in this zone, and also a court in one of the states,” he told reporters.
During the meeting it was also decided that the southern states would share information on human trafficking, the way they do on naxal issues, Shinde added.
The meeting was attended by Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar and his Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry counterparts, Kiran Kumar Reddy and N Rangasamy. In the absence of Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa she had deputed Finance Minister O Panneerselvam and Electricity Minister Natham R Viswanathan. Kerala Finance Minister K M Mani represented the state as CM Oommen Chandy was also not present.
Human trafficking had assumed serious dimensions, Shinde said while adding that special measures need to be taken for protection of women and children.
The Ministry of Women and Child Development, in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs, is developing a national portal for tracking missing children and those found, he said.
“The project envisages creating an exclusive website for tracking of missing and found children and active participation of all concerned authorities is required”, the minister said.
