‘Seize disturbing loudspeakers’

The High Court on Monday directed the authorities to seize the loudspeakers of religious institutions that disturb the citizens in the name of rituals in morning time.

Hearing a public interest litigation filed by Jayanagar Residents’ Welfare Association, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice B V Nagarathna took the state government to task for not taking any action against the such institutions despite the directions of the court.

“The government has shown its helplessness to check inconvenience being caused to the general public. It is doing nothing. Despite of having power, it has become powerless in solving the problems of noise pollution,” the bench observed.
