The Lokayukta police is likely to seek more time to investigate into a case filed against Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) Limited for alleged irregularities in land allotment for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project.
On October 25, the court had directed the police to probe the case and file a report within a month. The police, however, have not made much headway in the investigation.
Lokayukta judge N K Sudhindra Rao had directed Additional DGP (Lokayukta) H N Sathyanarayana Rao to constitute an investigating team with not less than four deputy superintendents of police and submit a report before November 27.
“We have sent notice to NICE and other concerned parties seeking documents on collection of toll on
the NICE road. However, they are yet to respond. We will submit a progress report to the court on Tuesday and seek more time to look into the matter,” Rao told Express.
The police are yet to send notice to three former chief ministers, H D Deve Gowda, S M Krishna and B S Yeddyurappa, who are accused of helping the private firm.
Meanwhile, the Lokayukta police on November 17 registered an FIR against the former CMs and other officials named in the complaint.
The case file by activist T J Abraham, also accused NICE MD Ashok Kheny, industrialist Baba Kalyani, former Massachusetts governor William Weld and Richard Hangan of NICE, and others of illegally encroaching about 5,972 acre for the project.
HC Adjourns NICE Case
The High Court on Monday adjourned to Tuesday an appeal filed by NICE challenging the Lokayukta Court’s directive to probe the alleged irregularities in the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project.
Hearing submission by the appellant, Justice H Billappa adjourned the case for Tuesday for further hearing. On November 20, Deve Gowda had filed a application to implead himself in the case and stated that he does not want the probe to be stopped.
