The State Cabinet on Thursday decided to constitute a sub-committee to look into granting of title deeds to cultivated government lands on the outskirts of Bangalore city and other urban local bodies (ULBs).
According to sources, a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, decided to form the Cabinet sub-committee following suggestions from Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra.
For several years, many people have been cultivating government lands outside the limits of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and other ULBs. According to the rule, the lands within 18 km radius of Bangalore city and five km radius of the other ULBs cannot be regularised. The panel will study the suggestions of the Karnataka High Court and Supreme Court and formulate a policy, sources said.
According to sources, the Cabinet also gave its approval to Karnataka State Sugarcane Regulation, Supply and Purchase Bill, passed in the Belgaum session of the legislature. It was also decided to constitute a Cabinet sub-committee to formulate a policy on agricultural marketing.
The proposed policy aims at bringing in reforms in the functioning of the APMCs in terms of transparency, issuance of trade licences and making information on prices of commodities available on internet.
