‘Bellary rape victim wrote letter’

The 19-year-old girl who is undergoing treatment at the CJ hospital in Davangere after being allegedly raped by a relative, had written a four-page letter about the accused’s misbehaviour before the incident, said her uncle R T Abu Bakar.

The victim had written to inform her family about 58-year-old Abu Bakar’s advances. She told her relatives about the letter on Sunday in a semiconscious state. According to her uncle, the victim said that she had written the letter some weeks ago and had kept it in her bag, but before she could hand over the letter, she was raped. He said that the letter was handed over to the police.

The police, however, denied that they had received any letter from the victim’s family. She was taken away from her home in Hagaribommanahalli on Thursday night at around 10.45 pm when family members were fast asleep. At 11 pm, her family noticed that she was missing and searched for her the whole night after which we approached the HB Halli police, said R T Abu Bakar.

He said she did not regain consciousness after giving her statement to the police on Sunday morning and that the doctors have no hope that she will survive.  The accused H Abu Bakar of HB Halli, had moved to Hospet along with his family four years ago, but used to visit HB halli as he owns a house there.  The victim was teaching in Mandira residential school in HB halli, her uncle said.
