Two killed, 20 injured in NH pile-up

Two died and about 20 including eight children were injured when eight vehicles were involved in an accident on Bangalore-Mangalore National Highway-48 near Kunigal on Sunday.

The accident brought vehicular movement on the NH to a standstill for about three hours.

Bodies of a woman aged about 40 years and a man about 38 years are yet to be identified. According to reports, a sand-laden lorry bound for Bangalore hit a car at Anchepalya-Bidanagere gate on the outskirts of Kunigal around 9 pm. The trailing vehicles, including an LPG tanker and five cars, all moving towards Bangalore piled up. The injured were shifted to the hospitals in Kunigal, Magadi and Bellur Cross.

They were all returning to Bangalore after spending the weekend in their native towns.

Superintendent of police Raman Gupta, who was part of the rescue operation, told Express that three cranes and six 108 ambulance were pressed in to the service for the rescue operation.
