Convicts to be shifted to cells next to gallows

The four Veerappan aides facing death sentence have got temporary relief as the Supreme Court has stayed their execution till February 20.

Sources told Express that there was a joyous atmosphere in the jail on hearing the order.

However, Veerappan’s brother Gnanaprakash and Simon have been depressed since Saturday. Gnanaprakash has stopped eating while Simon has not slept since Saturday, sources said. Meesekar Madaiah and Bilavendran are the other convicts.

Gnanaprakash and his family kept a distance from Veerappan, family sources said.

Meanwhile, the jail authorities have decided to shift all the four who are lodged in isolated separate cells, to the cells beside the gallows.

According to jail sources the height of gallows is 21 feet and the bodies will hang three-feet from the ground after the punishment is carried out.
