2 out of 3 Gulbarga school buses fail fitness test

In all, 198 school buses, including 20 belonging to the prestigious Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul International School (SSGIS) in Gulbarga, have failed to get fitness certificates.

Though RTO officials visited SSGIS twice to check the buses, the school had failed to take safety measures, Regional Transport Office sources told Express.

There are 302 school buses plying in the district. Following a Supreme Court order, the RTO issued notices to all schools and colleges last month asking them to get fitness certificates.

RTO Ishwar Awati told Express: “When school and college buses queued up before the office, most of them failed the fitness test and were sent back. We have asked the institutions to ensure that their vehicles have safety measures.”

The institutions have now been given another week to comply with the guidelines,  failing which the vehicle permits will be cancelled.

He said a campaign will be conducted to create awareness about safety of school vehicles. Awati said action will be taken against overcrowding of school autos.
