HC issues notice to EC, Yeddyurappa

The Karnataka High Court todayordered issue of notice to the Election Commission and formerchief minister B S Yeddyurappa on a petition challenging thepoll body's order recognising him as the President ofKarnataka Janatha Party.

Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar ordered notice also to KJPmember V Dhananjaya Kumar on the petition filed by partyfounder Padmanabha Prasanna Kumar.

Kumar contended Yeddyurappa had violated election ruleswhile declaring himself as the President of Karnataka JanathaParty.

Prasanna Kumar formally handed over the reigns of theparty to Yeddyurappa at a rally in Haveri on December 9 lastyear.

Yeddyurappa took over the party after quitting rulingBJP, upset over his "neglect" by party central leadership.

The Election Commission subsequently recognisedYeddyurappa as the President of KJP and rejected PrasannaKumar's claim as the founder President.
