Five to six leading solar companies have come forward to illuminate Vidhana Soudha, Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankarmurthy told Express on Monday.

Five to six leading solar companies have come forward to illuminate Vidhana Soudha, Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankarmurthy told Express on Monday.

Shankarmurthy, who had mooted the idea of illuminating the Vidhana Soudha — the seat of power — with solar power, said a meeting with Public Works Department engineers and the companies will be held  soon.

“We need to work out the cost before finalising it. This will also be discussed with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and ministers concerned before floating tenders for the project. It will not cause any burden on the state treasury,” he said.

The Council chairman said all legal hurdles for installing the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in meditation pose on the lawns between Vidhana Soudha and Vikas Soudha, have been cleared. The 20-25 foot tall statue of Gandhiji will be placed on 25 foot pedestal. The statue will be like the one in front of Parliament.

He said a book on the history of Vidhana Soudha is being translated into Kannada and it will be released in a month.
