The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee’s (KPCC) decision to assess the performance of ministers and party legislators on a quarterly basis has evoked good response in the party circle as well as among the MLAs.
Congress MLA from Challakere, Raghumurthy welcomed the decision of the central party leaders to assess the performance of legislators and also ministers. Informing that it would invoke a kind of responsibility among the elected representatives to perform well and address the grievances of the people, Murthy, the first-time Congress MLA, said, “I would welcome the decision of the central party leaders.”
He said ever since he got elected from his Assembly constituency he is in constant touch with the electorate . Allama Prabhu Patil, the member Karnataka Legislative Council, also welcomed the decision.
“Being in public life it is always good know whether we are discharging our responsibilities in rendering services to the people and correct ourselves,” Patil said. Dr Umesh Jadhav, another first-time Congress legislator, who had won the May 5 Assembly elections with a big margin in Chincholi also echoed Patil’s view.
“Earlier there was a practice to assess the performance of ministers and now an idea had been mooted to judge the MLAs and MLCs also, which is good,” Jadhav said.
However, strongly refuted the argument that ‘holding assessment test’ is tantamount to regulate party legislators. He said the decision should be taken positively.
“Assessment comes along with reward for those who excel in discharging their responsibilities,” he said.
KPCC president Dr G Parameshwara, announced on Saturday, that the party’s central leaders directed to hold an assessment of the performances of the party MLAs and ministers on a regular basis.
