The repolling at the Banavara Pete polling station no 75 ended peacefully except for an incident of verbal altercation between the Congress and JD(S) members.
The district authority had taken precautionary measures by imposing prohibitory orders in and around the polling station to ensure no untoward incidents take place. It may be recalled that the Election Commission ordered the repolling following a technical failure with the EVM.
Deputy Commissioner and returning officer V Anbu Kumar had reported the matter to the Election Commission. The polling was brisk till 12 noon and people were seen standing in long queues to exercise their franchise.
The Deputy Commissioner and SP Ravi D Channannavar visited the polling station. There was a minor disturbance when people who were standing in the queue rushed to witness a clash between the Congress and JD(S) workers outside the polling station.
As per the statistics available with the district authority, 366 people exercised their franchise. The total poll percentage was 68.41.
Meanwhile, Repolling was held at Kolaghatta village in Turuvekere taluk following the directive issued by Election Commission in the wake of reports of proxy voting.
Leaders of various political parties, including the candidates, reached the village to woo voters. BJP candidate G S Basavaraju stayed in the village from morning till evening. Though their nominee A Krishnappa passed away on April 24, JD(S) leaders too visited the village. JD(S) MLA M T Krishnappa said “Though our candidate passed away, we are sure that our voters will not let us down. We are confident of victory and it is up to the Election Commission to take a call after the results are announced.”
Congress candidate S P Muddahanume Gowda too visited the village on Monday and his supporters Choudri Rangappa, Shivaraj and Murthy camped at the village on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, political pundits have said the Tumkur seat would see a photo-finish. The polling was held peacefully with the voters showing more enthusiasm than they did on April 17.
