Coming soon: 100-foot-tall statue on MM Hills

MYSURU: The Male Mahadeshwara Development Authority has decided to erect a 100-foot-tall statue of Lord Male Mahadeshwara on the hills in Kollegal taluk of Chamarajanagar.

Speaking at the Male Mahdeshwara Development Authority meeting, District Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad on Tuesday said the statue will be installed in the 43-acre land falling under revenue department atop the hill. “Residents in the 13 acres will be relocated and an alternate land will be sanctioned to them,” he said.

The concrete statue would cost `21 crore and the money for the purpose will be raised from the devotees, he said.

A decision was also taken to withdraw three acres sanctioned to Kannada and Culture Department and enter into an understanding with Folklore University to encourage and carry out research on folk arts like Kamsale, Manteswamy and Gurubajan. Mahadeva Prasad said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay foundation to `50 crore development works on lines of Tirupati that includes underground drainage, development of Antharagange housing complex and employees quarters.

He told basic facilities will be developed at Nagamallai and steps will be taken to recruit staff. The meet also resolved to prepare an action plan to develop 176 acres in phases besides building toilets, providing drinking water and park facilities to devotees during Diwali and other special occassions.
