RAICHUR: The state government’s aim is to provide primary education in Kannada medium but a Supreme Court judgement has become a hindrance, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Inaugurating the 82nd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan here on Friday, Siddaramaiah said Supreme Court has stated that medium of education cannot be made compulsory and it should be left to parents of respective children.
If this judgement is implemented, not only Kannada but all regional languages will lose their existence, he added.
“I have brought it to the notice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to take suitable steps with regard to regional languages,” he said.
Stating that the state government took an initiative in collecting and publishing the tatva padas of Hyderabad Karnataka region, the CM said national saint poet Kanakadasa Study and Research Centre will collect tatva padas and publish them in 50 volumes.
To provide employment opportunity to Kannadigas in Central and private sector industries, 45 out of 58 recommendations made in the Dr Sarojini Mahishi report have been fulfilled, he said.
