B’luru Alma mater remembers Jaya

A condolence meeting for former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was held at Bishop Cotton Girls’ School here on Wednesday.

BENGALURU: A condolence meeting for former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was held at Bishop Cotton Girls’ School here on Wednesday. Jayalalithaa had studied at the school from kindergarten to Class 4.

The meeting was attended by all those associated with the institution, including the staff and students, current and former principals, members of the management, a few classmates of Jayalalithaa and members of the alumni association of both the girls’ and the boys’ school.
Speaking about the event, Lavanya Mithran, Principal of Bishop Cotton Girls’ School, who had twice attended Jayalalithaa’s swearing-in ceremony, said, “The Old Girls’ Association, comprising the school’s alumni paid tributes to her and the former principals spoke. We sang some special songs for her.”
A former principal who spoke was Stella Samuel, who, a few years ago, was responsible for unearthing the picture of Jayalalithaa’s batch in school.

Her classmates said that ‘Jaya’ was a quiet, but mischievous girl, and was good at both academics and sports.The former principals spoke about how the AIADMK chief overcame obstacles to reach where she did, and was an inspiration for all women. Jayalalithaa’s former classmates Dorothy Sampath Kumar and Fatima Jaffer also spoke.
Principal Mithran said, “The staff of the school, the former principals, members of the management and 3-4 classmates of Jayalalithaa attended the meeting. The Old Boys’ Association, comprising alumni of the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, was also part of the meeting.”

KSRTC resumes bus services to Tamil Nadu
In a major relief to the bus passengers travelling between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, KSRTC resumed its TN-bound services at 10am on Wednesday. KSRTC operates an average of 410 trips to TN daily. TNSTC, which operates 596 trips daily, also resumed its operations from Wednesday morning. KSRTC officials said they had suspended the services on Monday. “We incurred a total loss of Rs 1.50 crore because of the cancellation of TN bus services,” said a KSRTC official.
