MANGALORE: A team of police officials, led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police searched the office of Facebook in Mumbai on Thursday after the latter refused to cooperate with Mangaluru police in a case. They were investigating the case of posting derogatory comments on Kateel temple goddess Durgaparameshwari on Facebook.

The team was assisted in their search by Mumbai police and experts from Bengaluru cyber cell.  Sources told Express that following widespread criticism against the derogatory remarks about goddess Durgaparameshwari, the police arrested a youth from Chikkamagaluru.

The police had sought assistance from Facebook in order to arrest the key conspirators in Dubai who had posted the defamatory remarks.

When Facebook refused to extend cooperation, the investigating officer registered a case of non-cooperation against Facebook in North police station recently.
