BENGALURU: People, irrespective of age, are gearing up to celebrate the New Year in the city on Saturday. And as many as 16,000 police personnel have been deployed to prevent any untoward incidents.
Addressing the media, City Police Commissioner N S Megharikh said, “Like every year, CCTV cameras, 30 platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), three battalions of City Armed Reserve (CAR), Quick Response Teams, anti-sabotage squads, police on watch towers and women personnel will be deployed, apart from intelligence teams.”

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) R Hithendra said, “Special teams have been formed and they will be deployed in many parts of the city. We will be carrying out drunken-drive checks throughout. All flyovers will be closed for vehicles from 9 pm on Saturday till 6 am on Sunday to prevent accidents.”
The police have also issued a statement on traffic diversion and entry restrictions in many parts of the central business district.
