Better Sanitation Needed: Health Minister Khader

BENGALURU: Contagious diseases including dengue can be brought under control with better water and sanitation, said Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader.

Inaugurating the ‘National Sustainable Water and Sanitation India Summit 2016’ in the city on Thursday, Khader said, “Remedies for water and sanitation will have a big impact on addressing health issues like dengue. This needs more coordination between the government and the private sector.” The minister also called for localised approach to issues. “When we think of water, we only think of big projects with big investments. Ultimately, we ignore local solutions like water harvesting and local-level concerns,” he added.

The conference is supported by the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Swachh Bharat Mission, Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation Ltd and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
