Congress has forgotten Patel, Ambedkar, says Yeddyurappa

B S Yeddyurappa has accused Congress leaders of forgetting Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb Ambedkar, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

BENGALURU: BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa has accused Congress leaders of forgetting Mahatma Gandhi, who led the nation in freedom struggle, Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who played a stellar role in the unification of India after the country attained independence.

“Memory of current Congress leaders is limited to Nehru-Gandhi family,” Yeddyurappa said addressing the gathering at a function to celebrate the birth anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel, which is being celebrated as Rashtriya Ektha Diwas, here on Monday.

Recalling Gandhiji’s advice to Congress leaders immediately after the country attained independence to dissolve Congress, Yeddyurappa said, “The country is experiencing the consequences of Congress leaders ignoring Gandhiji’s advice. People have decided to liquidate Congress on their own.”

The Kashmir dispute would not have arisen if Patel was made the Prime Minister. Narendra Modi is the Sardar Patel of modern India, Yeddyurappa said and expressed the confidence that Modi would solve the problems India was facing.

Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda recalled Patel’s tough policy to eradicate separatist tendencies in the country and advocated the need for implementing Uniform Civil Code in the country.

Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers H N Ananth Kumar said the country is still facing challenges from the divisive, terrorist, separatist and Naxal forces. “The attacks on cadre of nationalist forces is a mirror to the law and order situation in the state. There has been attacks on the lives of persons associated with the nationalist organisations. Soft attitude towards anti-national, divisive forces will be a threat to the unity of the country,” he said.
