CHAMARAJANAGAR: The Central team took stock of the drought situation and crop loss by visiting several parts of Chamarajanagar district on Thursday.

The team comprising S M Kolatkar, Satish Kumar Kamboj, S C Meena and others visited more than a dozen villages including Sattegala, Katnavadi, Mellahalli and Heggavadipura.

The farmers showed them the dried up canals and wilting crops to apprise them the impact of drought. At many places, the farmers showed the empty lands and said that they could not grow anything for want of water.

Deputy Commissioner B Ramu made a PowerPoint presentation to the team on the availability of drinking water and fodder. The team was apprised about the drinking water problems faced by villages on the forest fringes through photographs. The team was not happy with the progress achieved under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and said efforts should be made to enrol more and more farmers to the scheme.
