Karnataka Home Minister jumps to Baig’s defence in Rudresh murder case

Terms allegations baseless, says if Shobha has evidence to substantiate, it should be given to police.

BENGALURU: A day after BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje accused Infrastructure minister Roshan Baig of being directly involved in the murder of RSS worker Rudresh, Home Minister G Parameshwara termed the allegation as baseless.

Speaking to mediapersons in the city on Saturday Parameshwara said Baig has nothing to do with the case. “If the BJP MP has any evidence to substantiate her allegations, she should provide it to police who are investigating the case,” he added.

Shobha, however, said her statements were based on information given to police by those arrested in the case and information she gathered from people in that locality. “Those arrested in the case informed police about the involvement of a senior Congress leader. Let central agencies like CBI or NIA probe the case and the truth will come out,” she said.

Baig has rubbished the allegation. “BJP is making baseless allegation against me to rake up the issue and keep it alive. I think it’s part of their Mission-150 strategy to polarize society with the hope of winning more seats. It’s their old strategy,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, city police probing the case have arrested five people,, including the city unit president of Popular Front of India (PFI). Sources said during interrogation, the accused told police that they killed Rudresh as he was growing politically and economically.

Office bearers of the PFI accused the police of working under political pressure to arrest their city unit president Hashim Sharif.

Rudresh was hacked to death near Commercial Street in the city on October 16.
