MADIKERI: Tipu jayanti was held amid protests by BJP and other organisations in the district on Thursday. Sangh Parivar, Kodava Samaj and other organisations had called for a Kodagu Bandh, which evoked good response and the whole district came to a standstill.

The Tipu Jayanti programme was held under the shadow of violent incidents which had claimed two people in the district last year. The government this year took adequate security measures to prevent any untoward incidents.  However, BJP and Hindu workers succeeded in organising protests at all the three venues where the celebrations were arranged.

In Tipu’s capital too
Mysuru: The Fort town of Srirangapatna observed a total bandh protesting the celebration of Tipu Jayanti. All the shops, prominent commercial establishments and hotels remained closed hitting the tourists hard.
